Ruben Perez
Ruben Perez of Dime Box, Texas, has been hunting with hog dogs since 2012. He was introduced to the sport by his good friend and mentor, David Allen of Rockdale. Before getting dogs of his own, Ruben spent time hunting alongside David—listening, learning, and asking plenty of questions. He remains grateful to David for introducing him to a sport that has become such an important part of his life.
Ruben primarily hunts throughout Central Texas, where his dogs work challenging terrain filled with yaupon, briars, and thick brush. He also enjoys traveling to different areas to give his dogs experience in new terrain and hunting conditions. He spends countless hours hunting, conditioning his dogs, and learning through experience, trial, and error.
Rather than favoring one particular breed, Ruben runs mostly hound-and-cur crosses that he breeds and raises himself. His philosophy is simple: breed good dogs to good dogs and preserve the traits that work best for his style of hunting. Over the years, this approach has helped him develop a line of dogs in which he takes great pride.
When Ruben began entering hog-hunting tournaments, he competed under the name LCHD, which stands for Lee County Hog Doggers. As his hunting group grew, the LCHD name stuck and continues to represent the close-knit group today. Ruben also co-manages the Central Hog Doggers Only Facebook group, helping provide a place for fellow hog hunters to connect, share their experiences, and support the sport.
Ruben, hog dogging is about much more than the hunt. It is about family, dogs, memories, and friendships built along the way. The sport has brought people into his life from around the world, and many of those friendships have grown into family. He believes that finding good hunting partners is a lot like finding good dogs—both are valuable and worth holding on to.
Wild Boar USA is proud to welcome Ruben Perez to our Pro Staff team.
